It may seem early to think about, but the holidays are coming up soon. That means busy times! One added stress you definitely don’t want this holiday season is a cavity. Here are ways to prepare to make sure your teeth stay healthy this holiday season.

Brushing: We all know that brushing our teeth is important, but how is your technique? Do you brush twice a day, for two minutes each session? 2×2. Simple to remember, and foundational for good mouth health.

Flossing Well: The American Dental Association recommends you floss once a day, for 2-3 minutes per session. Use about an 18-inch piece of floss, to allow you to use a new section of thread for each tooth. Go completely around each tooth. Don’t forget your back molars! If you are just starting your flossing habit, a little discomfort is not uncommon–but if it lasts for more than a couple weeks, call your dentist.

Great Food: Strong teeth come not only from good hygiene habits but also from how you fuel your body! Cheese, milk, and plain yogurt and other calcium-packed foods are excellent for oral health. Can’t have dairy? Incorporate other calcium-rich foods, such as beans and dark leafy greens, into your daily food intake.

Regular Dental Visits: Before the holidays get in full swing, remember to schedule your seasonal dental visit. This allows Dr. Laurin Cardwell to have up-to-date information on your mouth health, as well as find any problems early. Professional cleanings are also great for teeth and can help prevent cavities from developing as well as keep your smile white for all of those holiday pictures!
