Injuries, accidents and emergencies can happen to your mouth just like any other part of the body. When this happens you will want to act fast and keep calm.

Having a first aid specifically set up to handle dental emergencies can go a long way towards improving your chances of successfully handling most common problems.

This is especially handy if you are on vacation, out camping or in a situation where you can’t immediately make it to our office.

Waxed dental floss is a great tool for easily sliding between teeth and gums for removing stuck food and objects.

There are also new tooth preservation products available to help preserve a tooth that has been knocked out. This is a container with a nourishing gel designed to help nourish the tooth and keep it alive until you can get to your dentist. If you have a tooth knocked out you can unscrew the cap, place the tooth in the gel and seal it again.

Small plastic cups and condiment salt packets are also convenient to have on hand to quickly prepare a salt water rinse.
Many oral traumas can benefit from a cold compress. Keeping a few zip-top bags and a wash cloth or tea towel in the kit will help you put a compress together to alleviate pain.
